...The designers themselves are perfectly aware of this, because in the 65TU8502 model they used stronger, i.e. more aggressive, dimming the entire picture frame (ang. Frame dimming).
maximum: 218 cd / m ^ 2 (50/50),
default: 166 cd / m ^ 2 (41/50),
minimum: 8 cd / m ^ 2 (0/50).
The recommended brightness level for home theater (SDR, approx. 120 cd / m ^ 2) ensures that the brightness setting is 32/50.
In HDR mode on the 10% board, the maximum luminance after three minutes of measurement was about 227 cd / m ^ 2.
In short, the low maximum brightness in HDR mode and bright black mean that we can only find acceptable HDR in the QLED 2020 TV range. Here 65TU8502 has no advantage over 55TU8502.
Motion mapping:
Despite the use of a different type of matrix than in 55TU8502, i.e. ADS, not VA, we are still dealing with a 60 Hz class panel. Therefore, I was not surprised at all that the sharpness of moving images was 150 lines (per 1080 maximum), i.e. below the measurement minimum, which is 300 lines. In other words, both the sharpness and smoothness of movement were almost identical to those in 55TU8502.

It is worth noting that we tested the TV in hardware version No. 1 (Version No. 01)
VA type LCD ,RGB-vertical stripe
Edge LED (bottom) backlight
The brightness was not high on the full screen test board and in the movie mode it was:
default 184 cd / m ^ 2 (i.e. + 15% compared to 160 cd / m ^ 2 in 55TU8502),
maximum: 267 cd / m ^ 2 (i.e. + 28% compared to 209 cd / m ^ 2 on 55TU8502).
The recommended brightness level for SDR home theater (approx. 120 cd / m ^ 2) is set to brightness 38/50. I would like to add that the 50TU8502 does not use frame dimming , which makes me happy, because I do not like this "function".
Again, there is a clear advantage of the 50-inch over the 55-inch model. What's up, Samsung? Where is it coming from? Why is a smaller and cheaper model technically better? I would love to hear the answers to these questions ...
In HDR mode on the 10% board, the maximum luminance after three minutes of measurement was 269 cd / m ^ 2, compared to 211 cd / m ^ 2 for the 55-inch model.
Of course, this is still not enough to properly display HDR content. Well, despite the ability to recognize multiple HDR formats (HDR10, HLG, and HDR10 +), the 50TU8502's score is still surprisingly low for the top of the line Crystal UHD TVs. This means that scenes from 4K HDR movies will not have the brightness that their creators predicted (they will be too dark). When watching my favorite 4K HDR videos ( Ghost etc), they looked like SDR footage, not HDR.
On the other hand, one cannot help but notice that we have a 27% increase in luminance (from 211 to 269 cd / m ^ 2) compared to the 55-inch model. Yes, I know it is still not enough, but it cannot be denied that it is better, and this gives the Samsung 50TU8502 another point of advantage in the competition with the larger 55-inch brother from the same series.
Summary
Whatever the 50TU8502 model is, the facts speak in its favor. Darker blacks and higher contrast, more accurate colors and higher brightness in HDR mode make the Samsung 50TU8502 technically the best TV series TU8502 I have tested so far. In other words, the 50TU8502 is the first model in this series that I think deserves a recommendation, and it is hereby given. The Samsung 50TU8502 is a successful 4K TV for SDR content, with which I had no major problems during the test. In short: I recommend it.
