Μερικά απ' τα νέα all in a box συστήματα Home Cinema που παρουσιάζονται αυτές τις ημέρες στην CES 2010 στο Las Vegas.

CES_2010_Image_SC-BT730_610x510.jpg

Panasonic SC-BT730

Home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems often get flack for the integrated components that don't work as well as separates, but with Blu-ray HTIBs we've generally found that the built-in disc player works as well as standalone units. Panasonic announced three new Blu-ray HTIBs for 2010, adding the similar features (Wi-Fi, Netflix) to the product line as the company did with its mainstream Blu-ray players.

Key features of the Panasonic SC-BT230:
  • 5.1 home theater system
  • Built-in Blu-ray player
  • PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus video processor
  • Bamboo cone speakers in the center channel
  • Supports Panasonic's VieraCast streaming content portal, which will feature content from Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Picasa, Netflix, Pandora and Twitter
  • Wi-Fi ready, requires USB Wi-Fi dongle (sold separately)
  • iPod/iPhone dock
  • No release date or pricing announced
Key step-up features of the Panasonic SC-BT330:
  • Tall-boy front speakers
  • Kelton-type subwoofer
  • Note: The BT330 lacks the bamboo cone speakers on the center channel available on the BT230
  • No release date or pricing announced
Key step-up features of the Panasonic SC-BT730:
  • Wireless rear speakers
  • Bamboo cone speakers in the center channel
  • No release date or pricing announced
When we reviewed Panasonic's Blu-ray HTIBs in 2009, we were impressed with their sound quality for the size, but were let down by some of the missing features. The new lineup addresses some of those criticisms with the addition of Netflix and Pandora streaming, plus the option to add Wi-Fi with the USB dongle.
Still, those improvements might not be enough to catch-up with the competition. LG also announced several Blu-ray HTIBs, with the step-up models featuring built-in Wi-Fi and two HDMI inputs. We can't make any direct comparisons since pricing hasn't be announced for either, but Panasonic's HTIBs will have be considerably cheaper (or sound considerably better) to stay competitive.

Sony_BDV-HZ970W_Blu-ray_HT_610x343.jpg

We knew 3D was coming, but we didn't expect it to be integrated into a home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) system this quickly. Sony announced the BDV-HZ970W, a home theater system that features an integrated 3D Blu-ray player and a 5.1 speaker system with wireless rear speakers.

Key features of the Sony BDV-HZ970W:

  • Integrated Blu-ray 3D player
  • 5.1 speaker system with wireless rear speakers
  • Multiroom functionality utilizing Sony's proprietary S-Air wireless audio products
  • HDMI 1.4 output
  • Access to the Bravia Internet Video platform, which includes Netflix, Amazon Video on Demand, YouTube, Pandora, Slacker, and NPR streaming capability
  • Wi-Fi capable with included USB dongle; Ethernet also available
  • DLNA compliant; capable of sharing photos, music and videos from a connected PC
  • Front panel USB port
  • SACD-compatible
  • Onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
  • No release date or pricing announced
The BDV-HZ970W reminds us a lot of the Sony BDV-E500W we reviewed in 2009, which was a solid Blu-ray home theater system, but we felt it didn't offer enough to justify its high price. The new BDV-HZ970W certainly adds to some punch to the features column with 3D Blu-ray compatibility and support for Sony's Bravia Internet Video platform. If the BDV-HZ970W is reasonably-priced, it could be a good option for upscale home-theater-in-a-box system buyers.
Sony also announced two non-3D Blu-ray HTIBs, the BDV-E770W and BDV-E570.

Από κοντά και η LG, με 3 νέα συστήματα:

LG's Blu-ray HTIBs get built-in Wi-Fi, HDMI inputs

LHB975_610x457.JPG

LG LHB975

LAS VEGAS--Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems surprised us in 2009, because not only did they offer Blu-ray at an affordable price, but most of them actually sounded pretty good. LG has announced three new Blu-ray HTIB systems for CES 2010, with some key step-ups from 2009's offerings like built-in Wi-Fi and more HDMI connectivity.

Key features of the LG LHB335
  • 5.1 home theater system
  • Built-in Blu-ray player
  • LG's NetCast suite of streaming media services, including Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow, YouTube, Pandora, Picasa, and AccuWeather
  • One HDMI input
  • USB port capable of playing photos, movies and music
  • Onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential
  • No release date or pricing announced
Key step-up features of the LG LHB535
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Two HDMI 1.3 inputs
  • DLNA-compliant, allowing you to stream music, photos, and videos from a connected PC
  • No release date or pricing announced
Key step-up features of the LG LHB975
  • Wireless rear speakers and subwoofer
  • Tall and slim front speakers
  • No release date or pricing announced
The biggest change from LG's 2009 Blu-ray HTIB offerings is that both the LHB535 and LHB975 include integrated Wi-Fi, which should make it much easier for most people to take advantage of streaming media services like Netflix. The LHB975's wireless rear speakers are also an upgrade over the wired rear speakers of 2009's LHB977. The other major change is the inclusion of the HDMI input on the entry-level LHB335, which is a welcome addition now that nearly every home theater gadget uses HDMI.
It's hard to tell how LG's new Blu-ray home theater systems will stack up until we see some prices, but at first glance they look to make some key improvements over 2009's already solid lineup.

Panasonic's wireless pole-like speakers/receiver support 3D video pass-through.

CES_2010_Image_SC-ZT2_wireless_speakers_610x686.jpg

Panasonic SC-ZT2

LAS VEGAS--Last year, Panasonic showed its SC-ZT1 wireless home theater system and it got a nod as a Best of CES 2009 finalist in the home audio category. At CES 2010, Panasonic has announced the next generation, the SC-ZT2, pairing it down to only two pole-like speakers and adding pass-through support for 3D video. Here are the announced features.

Key features of the Panasonic SC-ZT2:
  • Wireless audio/receiver package with two pole-like speakers
  • Pass-through 3D video support (which implies HDMI 1.4)
  • Virtual surround sound from two speakers
  • 5-inch subwoofers built into the cylindrical base
  • Onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
  • Return audio channel over HDMI support (also implies HDMI 1.4)
  • Available in June 2010; no pricing announced
We didn't get a chance to review the SC-ZT1 last year, but the more minimalist two-speaker setup makes more sense to us for the style-conscious buyers this system will appeal to. We're also assuming the SC-ZT2 supports HDMI 1.4 (still trying to confirm with Panasonic), which is good future-proof protection in case you want to upgrade to 3D Blu-ray down the road.

Και η πρώτη ηχομπάρα της Panasonic:

Panasonic's first sound bar uses HDMI 1.4 return channel.

CES_2010_Image_SC-HTB1soundbar_610x114.jpg

Panasonic SC-HTB1

LAS VEGAS--Sound bars have been around since the Yamaha YSP-1, which won a CNET Next Big Thing nomination at CES 2005. Panasonic is a major manufacturer of home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems, but the company is making its first entry into the sound bar market with the SC-HTB1. The press release highlights its "Clear-Mode Dialogue" feature and advanced bamboo cone speakers, but the most interesting announcement to us is its compatibility with ARC (audio return channel), allowing you to "connect it to the TV with just one HDMI cable."
An audio return channel is one of the new features of the HDMI 1.4 standard, and theoretically you could connect all your components directly to your HDMI 1.4-compatible HDTV with just a single HDMI cable sending the audio back to the sound bar.
Great in theory, but we won't know how well it works until we actually get our hands on a review unit. We imagine there could be challenges with analog audio sources that would need to be converted to digital audio by the TV.
There was no pricing or availability announced, so we'll have to wait for more information about the SC-HTB1.

LG's unannounced, awesome Blu-ray sound bar.

CES_2010_001_610x534.jpg

LG LLB915 didn't get announced in LG's press releases, but it has a standout feature set.

CES 2010 LAS VEGAS--We covered all of LG's major product announcements on Wednesday, but when we swung by the booth yesterday the LLB915 Blu-ray sound bar caught our eye. We're not quite sure why LG didn't mention it at the press conference, but the feature set is impressive. Here's what the product card said.

Key features of the LG LLB915:
  • Sound bar with built-in Blu-ray player
  • 2 HDMI inputs, 1 output
  • 430 watts of power
  • Wireless subwoofer
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • LG's NetCast suite of streaming media services, including Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow, YouTube, Pandora, Picasa, and AccuWeather
  • DLNA-compliant
  • No release date or pricing announced
CES_2010_003_270x114.jpg
The LLB915's slot-loading built-in Blu-ray player.

The card at the booth also mentioned the LLB915 was "made for iPod", which implies it has an iPod dock, but we couldn't see one at the booth. Again, LG hasn't released any info for this product beyond the product card at the CES 2010 booth, but we've requested more details.
From the first glance, the LLB915 appears to have stuffed the functionality of the BD390 standalone Blu-ray player into a sound bar, plus added two additional HDMI inputs for other devices. If it delivers passable sound quality, this could be a product to look for in 2010.

Και τα αντίστοιχα all-in-a-box συστήματα της Samsung για το 2010:

Samsung's trio of Blu-ray HTIBs get DLNA, Wi-Fi, apps

HT-C6730W_R45_610x453.jpg

Samsung HT-C6730W

We liked most of the Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB) systems we reviewed in 2009, but the Samsung HT-BD1250 stood as the best, thanks to its excellent sound quality (for an HTIB, at least). Samsung has announced a new line of Blu-ray HTIBs at CES 2010, adding features like DLNA-compatibility, Samsung Apps, and Wi-Fi. Here are the details.

Key features of the Samsung HT-C6500:
  • 5.1 home theater system
  • Built-in Blu-ray player
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • 1GB onboard storage
  • Supports Internet@TV/Samsung Apps, which will provide content from Netflix, Pandora, Vudu, Blockbuster, Picasa, and Twitter
  • Automatic speaker calibration
  • No release date or pricing announced

Key step-up features of the Samsung HT-C7530W:
  • Nature-inspired "Touch of Color" design
  • Wireless rear speakers
  • The HT-C7530W requires a USB dongle for Wi-Fi, unlike the other two models
  • No release date or pricing announced

Key step-up features of the Samsung HT-C6730W:
  • 7.1 home theater system
  • 1330 total watts
  • No release date or pricing announced
Internet@TV and Samsung Apps are Samsung's new proprietary content portals for home theater products. As of now, it's not perfectly clear exactly how it will work; Samsung says that the first free apps will launch in the spring, with premium apps following in the summer. When we talked to a Samsung rep at the booth, he said that standard services like Netflix, Pandora, and Vudu would all be free; he used Tetris as an example of something that would be a premium app. We get the feeling that a lot of the particulars still have to be worked out.
From first glance, the specs look to be mostly comparable to the recently announced Blu-ray HTIBs from LG. The main difference is that Samsung hasn't detailed if these HTIBs will have any HDMI connectivity; all of the LG systems have at least one HDMI input for an additional device, like a cable box.

Samsung HT-C6730W, HT-C7530W & HT-C6500

HT-C6730W_front.jpg

HT-C6730W_front.jpg

Sony BDV-F700

IMG_BDV-F700_E_T-1200%20-%20Copy.jpg
