SDR content:
As always, we factory reset the Sony 65A84L and then measured the picture presets to find which is the most accurate to the industry standards, out of the box, so we can view content as it was mastered and intended to be seen.
The best picture preset for this is Custom as it tries to follow the industry standards and produce image quality that replicates a Sony BVM professional monitor.
Custom does have some processing, such as MotionFlow and Reality Creation, switched on by default, which we turned off before taking measurements.


HDR content: We used the Custom HDR preset which was the closest to the industry standard for D65 white, ST2084 PQ EOTF and DCI-P3 wide colour gamut for our HDR testing and measurements.

Our settings and measures:
We set the Sony Bravia XR-65A80L TV to "User" mode, then lowered the brightness to 27 to get a white close to 150 cd/m².

backlight uniformity on the Google TV home screen and during the loading sequences of streaming apps.
Don't worry this is normal behavior for Sony LED LCD TVs and the local dimming function would be restored once you start playing the actual content on screen...
