Dear sirs and madams,
I read about the future launch of Sirius 4 which will take over the transmissions of Sirius 2 and 3. Many of us wonder if the new satellite will cover Greece and Cyprus also. Right now the situation is as follows:
Sirius 2 Europe BSS can be received everywhere easily with 70-80cm Sirius 2 Europe FSS only in northern parts of Greece with 1.20m is quite ok Sirius 2 Nordic beam around 1.80m in northern Greece and further south very difficult to get Sirius 3 Nordic beam cannot be received in northern Greece with 3m, in southern parts like Athens or Rhodes i have heard of 3.5-4m dishes that can get it and on Crete there is absolutely no chance to get it maybe on a 5m solid of which i am not aware if it's been tested at all.
Is there a slight chance that Sirius 4 Nordic beam will cover the whole region say with only 1.80m ? I know that your customer Viasat has the transmission rights only for Scandinavia and the Baltic countries and therefore it's of no interest if any other region gets covered at all but it's also known that many tourists either on the Canaries or in the Mediterranean want to watch their programmes, not to speak of expats and if we talk of united Europe me and thousands of other people are convinced that at least signal should reach all parts of the EU either it's encrypted or not and in no case block the rest as the BBC does on Astra 2D as it was 10 years before. Pay TV laws could change in not far future and allow people to get subscriptions with their address outside the country of origin and not as today common over friends/relatives or dealers that sell the package usually quite expensive to everybody.
I look forward on your answer and wish you all the best for the launch. Best regards and thanks a lot for spending time in reading, C.G. from Stuttgart/Germany

Hello,
Thank you for your email. The footprint of SIRIUS 4 will be pretty much the same as for SIRIUS 2 and 3. Greece and Cyprus will not be covered any better with the Nordic beams. If in the future the cost for programme rights will be reduced and tv companies like Viasat want to expand their coverage they can choose to be on the European beem which have a good pan-european coverage (the Canary islands included).
Best regards,
