Although the TV does not officially have an LED blanking system, there is a hidden dimmer system in the background that manipulates the brightness curve. The graph below shows that the gamma parameter is much higher (2.8) in places than it should be (2.4), which in some scenes can lead to poorer visibility and even loss of detail in shadows. The ideal chart should basically coincide with the yellow line.
A stealthy dimmer cannot be turned off, which is a pity.

...As you can see, the Samsung 65RU8002 does very well in dark scenes - I'd say even better than the smaller 55RU8002. What unfortunately connects both models is the "secret dimmer". Well, like the smaller brother, 65RU8002 does not officially have a diode blanking system, which did not prevent the designers from implementing a hidden and out of user control (a fe Samsung!) Dimmer of the entire screen frame (frame / global dimming) manipulating the brightness curve. In order not to repeat, for details to what extent it negatively affects the brightness characteristics, I refer to my earlier review of the 55RU8002 model .

So in the black and contrast category, despite the similarities, the winner is the larger 65RU8002...

351 cd / m ^ 2 on the 10% board (305 cd / m ^ 2 on 55RU8002)
284 cd / m ^ 2 on the board 5% (247 cd / m ^ 2 on 55RU8002)

And one more thing. Just don't think that the 55RU8002 case I have described is isolated. Examples are:

The biggest (positive) surprise for me was, however, that Samsung engineers gave up the non- switchable (at least from the publicly available menu) global dimming of the entire picture frame ( frame dimming / global dimming ), which from the purist's point of view is obviously unacceptable. In the newer version of the 55RU8002 model (with software number 1335), fortunately, we do not have this poop anymore.
