Puccini U-Clock Brings Music Servers into the High End
dCS, the British company that for 21 years has defined what is possible with digital audio has announced the launch of another world first. The patent pending (GB0817141.5) Puccini U-Clock, available from December 1st 2008, is a grade 1 system clock that also features patented clocking and USB to SPDIF conversion technology.
The Puccini CD/SACD Player from dCS is commonly accepted as one of the finest CD players in the world but Puccini is not just a disc player, it is a high end audio system in one box, combining all of dCS’s upsampling, DAC, clocking and CD/SACD player technology and delivers unbeatable performance from an integrated player.
The new Puccini U-Clock from dCS is a separate grade 1 system clock, which when used with any Puccini Player or any other industry standard digital component will reduce jitter and improve overall musical performance. Puccini U-Clock also features a patented USB to SPDIF converter, which enables Puccini owners to present sound files from a PC or Mac to the legendary dCS Ring DAC inside the Puccini at the same time as minimising jitter from the PC or Mac.
dCS Director of Product Design Chris Hales said, “In USB, there are numerous modes for synchronising the audio between the PC or Mac (the host), and an audio device. The most popular of these, "adaptive", involves the audio device synchronising itself to the USB "frame" provided by the PC or Mac. This tends to give poor jitter performance and results in less than perfect sound. Puccini U-Clock operates in "asynchronous" mode where the audio device synchronises the audio by providing a feedback pipe to the PC or Mac. The PC or Mac then is effectively locked to the audio device, which can have a much more accurate clock and much lower jitter. “
Using the U-Clock and Puccini Player in this way allows listeners to not only improve the performance from CD and SACD playback but to improve the sound from PC, Mac or servers through using the patented dCS Ring DAC within Puccini Player.
