Sony has announced that the PlayStation Eye, its USB camera peripheral for the PS3, will launch in Europe this summer, presumably to coincide with the release of karaoke title SingStar.
No price or exact date has been revealed, but Sony’s press release does detail some of the Eye’s abilities and specs. It will be able to capture video (at up to 120 frames per second) and stills directly to your PS3’s hard drive, will feature slow motion and time lapse and has been engineered to work in low light conditions.
In addition, the built-in microphone can reduce background noise in order to focus on “the spoken word” for more accurate speech and voice recognition. This means you won’t have to wear a headset for chat, says Sony.
The camera will also be bundled with EyeCreate software, which allows you to edit photos and videos and apply “eye-catching effects” using your console.
