Although Dutch manufacturer Philips chose not to exhibit at the recent Vegas CES, the company has still got a major announcement up its sleeve. A mysterious invite has been circulated to AV journalists, for an event on January 29, promising a preview of 'a new TV that is genuinely different to anything you have ever seen before'. However, details of the product have been leaked before its launch.
The TV in question is the Philips Cinema 21:9 – an ultra widescreen LCD TV that is capable of displaying 2.35:1 movies in their native aspect ratio. Few other details are available at present (such as resolution and panel size) save for the fact that it will carry the manufacturer's proprietary Ambilight system, but the television is due for launch in the Spring. We'll bring you more details after its official unveiling later this month.
And there we were thinking it'd be 3DTV... Pah!
