We take a first look at the LG G3 (which is 70% brighter than conventional OLEDs) & C3 OLED TVs which were launched by the South Korean brand at CES 2023.
In most markets, the 97-inch LG G2 will be carried over, so there won't be a 97G3.

We saw every LG C3 & G3 sizes at the company's European Convention in Frankfurt, including the 42-inch LG C3, as well as the 55", 65" & 77" G3 with MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology.
Due to time constraints, we only managed to carry out some measurements on the 65-inch LG C3 (model number OLED65C3), such as:
HDR peak brightness,
spectral power distribution
& input lag.

LG has expedited firmware update 3.10.19 on its 2023 OLED tvs including the G3 & C3 to fix the unwanted auto-dimming in prolonged, dark HDR scenes, so there's no need to lament the absence of [TPC Enable] setting in the service menu anymore.

Our settings and measurements:
We set the LG 65G3 TV to Filmmaker mode and then lowered the Oled brightness to 21 and turned off the power saving mode to get a white close to 150 cd/m².
We recommend setting the TruMotion option in User mode with the De-Judder option to 4 and the De-Blur Area option to 7.
Finally, to find faithful colors in Game mode, you must set the color temperature to "Hot 50" (Settings>Image>Advanced Settings>Color>White Balance>Color Temperature).

The Vivid mode very bright, but very far from fidelity.
We measured the maximum brightness in vivid image mode with a window of only 3%.
The peak brightness reaches 1840 cd/m² (nits).
This is simply the highest luminosity measured in our laboratory.
On the other hand, in this image mode, the luminance curve is not respected at all and the TV systematically displays an image that is too bright.
Of course, the Vivid mode does not respect the original image at all.
The color temperature is whimsical and pulls way too far towards blue, while the colors are totally wrong.
We measured a delta E at 30, very, very far from the delta E of 3 below which the colors are considered faithful.
In fact, the colors are far too saturated. For example, a pale green will turn into an almost fluorescent green.
Filmmaker mode for near-perfect HDR and impressive brightness.
As with many manufacturers, the Filmmaker mode allows you to obtain a simply perfect image, with colors very faithful to those sent by the source and the vision of the director.

600 nits peak brightness for HDR content

As with the content in HDR, we use the Filmmaker picture mode.
It offers the most natural colors of the work and comes close to the original intention of filmmakers.
But if you prefer more rich colors, it's worth taking a look at the other modes.
The Cinema mode, for example, looks a bit fresher, but still exudes a lot of naturalness.

By the way: Like the C3 or LG G3, the LG B3 can pass on DTS signals, including DTS:X, to external devices this year in addition to Dolby formats such as Dolby Atmos.
However, this can only be done losslessly via HDMI.
