Ο kmeaw "ανέβασε" ένα βίντεο που "τρέχει" Linux σε playstation 3 CFW 3.55 παράλληλα με AsbestOS Installer v0 και LV2 Patcher v9.

This tool installs AsbestOS, which can be used to boot Linux kernel from lv2patcher v9. Thanks to marcan for AsbestOS, Mathieulh and graf_chokolo for default.spp trick, geohot for dev_flash mount code. Thanks to jbc for testing and KingDong for the icon You would need to set up a DHCP, TFTP and NFS servers on your LAN to make it work. Wireless connection is not supported by AsbestOS yet. Have fun. O Graf_Chokolo κατάφερε να επαναφέρει το OtherOS στο firmware 3.41, η Sony υποστήριζε έως το 3.15.

I uploaded some screenshots of the Debian distribution i installed on my PS3 HDD. The Debian distribution is a just normal PPC64 Linux without any modification, all i changed was my dutifully and beloved Hypervisor

I modified the Hypervisor so far that it boots the Linux bootloader petitiboot from VFLASH and petitboot loads the Linux distribution installed on a HDD region.
And what is better than Linux to boot Linux ?
I practically implemented Dual Boot feature GameOS+OtherOS in the Hypervisor Linux is not the only OS which can be booted like this from PS3 HDD.

Now we don’t need GameOS anymore to run our code, no need anymore for SELFs and we can start now programming our own games on PS3 on Linux

I will make everything public

And greetings to SONY Hand me over the maintance and implementation of PS3 Hypervisor I will improve it and maintain for free We all will benefit. HV hacking is great fun

O Graf Chokolo δηλώνει ότι σύντομα θα έχουμε την δυνατότητα για dual boot Linux option feature in HV στο PS3 Slim με CFW 3.55, δεν αποκλείει το ενδεχόμενο για νεότερο custom firmware μελλοντικά!

graf_chokolo: I plan to implement dual boot feature in HV, just like i did on my PS3 3.41, and you can boot with it either gameos or linux or some other system like freebsd. You won’t need any bootos on gameos for that. I will also patch HV and enable more features.

graf_chokolo: I will do it on PS3 slim, first i will resize HDD and add a partition for Linux there.

graf_chokolo: now for 3.55, on other version offsets are different so the code is the same but offsets to patch are different

- I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed
when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on user’s
request via menu or ssh). It’s not hard to make it. But recently I
read graf’s announcment that he is going to accomplish the same task.
So I don’t know, if such CFW from me would get any demand.

Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous
hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. I’m going to merge them into
my code and release the next version.

H "φάση" προχωρά με αργά και σταθερά βήματα.

Ενθουσιασμένος ο graf_chokolo από την ταχύτητα του λειτουργικού Linux στον εσωτερικό δίσκο του PS3 Slim.

And warm boot with kexec works too. I can reboot my gentoo with kexec without power down.

Με το AsbestOS η διαδικασία δεν φαίνεται να είναι πολύ δύσκολη, αλλά σε απόδοση θα είναι παρεμφερές με το official OtherOS, για τα καλύτερα περιμένουμε τις χακιές του Graf_Chocolo.

Features:

• Into HV integrated OtherOS bootloader loader (compatible with OtherOS bootloader on 3.15)
• OtherOS bootloader is booted directly from HV, no GameOS is involved.
• Process of booting OtherOS bootloader loader is very similar to 3.15 method
• Booting Linux from HDD/USB/BD/Network
• Linux with GameOS rights
• Full access to all HV SS services (Dispatcher Manager) from GameOS or Linux
• Full access to all System Manager services
