Look, Mongolia is not a place for everyone!
It was the second communist country in the world, Ulaanbaatar was built by the Soviets using Japanese prisoners, so the infastructure is old, although the apartments inside are renovated but the stairs are usually in terrible condition, there are regular power cuts and some times, mainly during summer, shortage of hot water, also you have to be careful in the streets after dark so to remain safe and not to mention the extreme and harsh weather conditions (extreme cold during winter up to -40 in the nights and not more than -10 in the morning, sand storms during April and May etc) and the characteristic smell of burned coal during the winter.
It is a place than is growing very fast due to the vast mineral resources that were foud, so there is a big portion of the population living in extreme poor conditions and cannot have access to the infastucture (water , electricity) and a small portion that are becoming extremely rich. Now the country is in the phase of the formation of the middle class.
On the other side these are the main reasons why expats are not so many and the majority of them are very interesting people and very adventurous !
So as I said the place is not for everyone but only for few.....
