Fall / Winter 2007 Movie Guide
3:10 to Yuma
September 7
Director: James Mangold | Starring: Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Peter Fonda, Ben Foster
The reviews have been great so far and the cast is phenomenal - could this be the first strong push for the return of the western in Hollywood? It's almost entirely out of place with the rest of this year's movies, but even I'm interested and I hate westerns!
Shoot 'Em Up
September 7
Director: Michael Davis | Starring: Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci, Paul Giamatti
It's intense, it's entertaining, it's over-the-top, and it's fun as hell. Yes, it kicks as much ass anyone could ever imagine. Shoot 'Em Up is Crank combined with Children of Men. It may be the most fun you'll have all year!
Across the Universe
September 14
Director: Julie Taymor | Starring: Evan Rachel Wood, Jim Sturgess
Watch the Trailer
Although not everyone is interested, this very colorful and rather whimsical Beatles-filled musical looks like it may be a little gem that no one will hear about. Even if you don't like the Beatles it still looks pretty damn good.
The Brave One
September 14
Director: Neil Jordan | Starring: Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Naveen Andrews
Jodie Foster looks like she may be a strong performer, but it's Terrence Howard that will always be the tipping point on dramas like this. On top of that I'm interested in seeing how the story plays out and if she gets caught, which will essentially determine if this is Oscar worthy or not.
Eastern Promises
September 14
Director: David Cronenberg | Starring: Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel
It's David Cronenberg, who usually doesn't let down, but I'm not sure whether this will be a jumbled mess or something incredibly brilliant. I can say that Mortensen and Watts both look fantastic, it just comes down to how intricate the story is and if the buzzed-about naked fight scene is really worth it.

Dragon Wars
September 14
Director: Hyung-rae Shim | Starring: Jason Behr, Amanda Brooks
This little Korean film came out of nowhere and made an earth-shattering impact on the internet. A movie with giant dragons and mythical creatures attacking Los Angeles - how could this not sound exciting?!
Good Luck Chuck
September 21
Director: Mark Helfrich | Starring: Dane Cook, Jessica Alba, Dan Fogler
This doesn't look like the best comedy of the year, but I will admit it does look pretty funny. I'll give Dane Cook one more shot to act in his natural genre of comedy (what gives with doing drama in Mr. Brooks?); hopefully this time it won't be a flop like Employee of the Month.
