The Mini LED series, on the other hand, thanks to the possibility given by technology, manages to have a higher brightness and therefore a high contrast, almost covering some features of the VA panel. For these reasons it has been equipped with ADS panels so as to gain even in viewing angle.

Within its range, Hisense has decided to adopt both ADS and VA types of panels. This choice is mainly dictated by the fact that there is no better technology than the other, but only one that can best meet the needs of consumers. In fact, the two technologies are very similar, but offer advantages and disadvantages in the following evaluation criteria: viewing angle and contrast. In general, ADS panels have a wide viewing angle suitable for use in a bright living room, for sports or television programs. VA TVs, on the other hand, have a much better contrast, more suitable for watching movies and TV series, especially in a dark environment, always considering having the possibility of remaining well central in front of the panel.

Our settings and measurements
For the best picture quality, we set the Hisense 55U8HQ to Filmmaker mode in SDR (Cinema Night in HDR).
We then reduced the brightness to 20 to obtain a white close to 150 cd/m².
With low-quality sources, you can try the Standard mode, which scales better, but be sure to set the color temperature to "Warmer".

The detailed results obtained with these settings:

Actual contrast: 1390:1
Black: 0.10 cd/m²

The main advantage of ADS type matrices is low color degradation at an angle. The main disadvantage – low native contrast.ANSI contrast ratio 1335:1, which is on the one hand worse than VA panels, but slightly better than IPS panels.

SPD.The conversion to green is mainly carried out by quantum dots, and the conversion to red is performed by TriGain phosphorus (PFS/KSF).
This means that the Hisense 55U7HQ is not a typical, "full" QLED, but at most a "half-QLED", because it does not use two types of quantum dots, as in "typical" or full QLEDs.
This is not surprising and new in this class.
