New Kathrein UFS 922 Twin HD receiver Written by Administrator Friday, 01 August 2008
Kathrein will release a new HDTV capable Satellite Receiver, also running on Linux. The Kathrein UFS 922 will be the 1st twin HD satellite receiver from this company.
Quite remarkable is the fact that this receiver does support Diseqc 1.1-1.2! The UFS 910 does lack this eagerly awaited option for more then a year now & it seems the upcoming 1.06 firmware still doesn't support Diseqc properly. Some UFS 910 enthusiasts couldn't wait anymore for this highly nescessary option, so some people developped extended Diseqc support themselves. This isn't an ideal situation though...
Enough said about failing UFS 910 firmware support, lets have a look at the new flagship from Kathrein.
The UFS 922 will feature a twin DVB-S2 tuner & a 500 GB HDD. Also this box should play multimedia files, straightwaway from the HDD. The remote control looks more user-friendly then the UFS 910 one, because it features different shaped buttons & the shape of the remote control looks more ergonomic.
Sadly this receiver still lacks an internal cardreader, but still supports 2 common-interfaces to handle CA-modules.
Features
²) CA modules and smartcards are not supplied
The Kathrein UFS 922 will be available in silver, or black. No info about pricing & availability yet.
