"Philips has unveiled a new series of LCD TVs built to fit into a new Design Collection of aesthetically connected products that also takes in Blu-ray players and a selection of premium home theater systems.TVs within the Design Collection include the Philips Aurea, 9703, 9603, 7003 and 5003 series of flat TVs, all of which (from the 5603 series onwards) feature 1080p, Full HD LCD panels and Philips' latest audio visual innovations.
What’s more, the Design Collection 9000 series of Flat TVs carry Philips’ new second generation Perfect Pixel HD Engine image processing technology, which incorporates the following elements: Perfect Motion, Perfect Sharpness, Perfect Contrast and Perfect Color - delivering, says Philips, 'exceptional performance in each area which has been recognised as important to consumers'.
Philips Perfect Pixel HD uses sophisticated motion-compensation interpolation techniques to double the number of images from 50Hz to 100Hz, thus displaying images for only half the original time resulting, Philips claims, in a virtually blur-free picture. The response of the LCD panel is apparently reduced to just 2ms.
The 9000 Flat TV series also employs a powerful 17-bit Color Booster that theoretically pumps out 2,250 trillion colors, while the proprietary Perfect Contrast element combines Deep Dimming and Histogram Enhancement to reduce the effect of light leakage for dark scenes, enabling deep black levels with increased detail and better perceived contrast. Perfect Natural Motion in the 9000 Flat TV series or High Definition Natural Motion in the 7000 Flat TV series, meanwhile, is designed to make motion look far more fluid than is usually the case with LCD. One further innovation for the new 9700 and 9600 series of LCDs is Ambilight Spectra technology. This is the ‛360-degree’ Ambilight effect found on Philips’ groundbreaking Aurea TVs, meaning that coloured light pools emerge from all sides of the TV which correspond to the colour content of the image you’re watching at multiple points along each edge of the screen. Please note, though, that the 9700/9600 Ambilight Spectra system isn’t joined by the Aurea TVs’ Light Frame. In other words, the coloured light emissions only come from the TV’s rear, not the front bezel.
The last element of the Design Collection TVs worth a mention is their Invisible Sound system, where the speakers are fully integrated into the frame of the flat TV with invisible firing front drivers and subwoofer/mid speaker boxes in the bottom of the TV."
We think that means they look pretty. But what we do know with some degree of certainty is that the 2m/s response time, dynamic contrast ratios up to 55,000:1 and 100Hz picture, as well as the now more commonplace 1080p support makes the 9000 series a pretty desirable piece of kit.
