Philips 50PUS8804/12 with IPTV, Netflix with 4K and Dolby Vision, Amazon Prime, Youtube 4K, Playstation4 with HDR, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One X with 4K and HDR
First a brief explanation of all company names that come along. In the Netherlands, of course, we know Philips as a major brand for, for example, televisions, but in 2012, Philips rented out its name in the form of a license to various other parties. TP Vision has taken over the name in the field of TV. This company is a commercial subsidiary of TPV Technology, which is again one of the largest display manufacturers in the world. TPV Technology was already a very large player on the market before 2012, since the company produced monitors and small LCD displays under the name MMD, among other things.
TP Vision can therefore use the Philips brand name since 2012 to market televisions - and nowadays also audio products. TP Vision is officially in Chinese hands but the headquarters are located in Amsterdam. Moreover, there are still many people who previously worked for the Philips TV department. TP Vision can carry the Philips brand in 93 countries, which includes the whole of Europe. Canada, China, Mexico and the United States are not covered by the license.
Gorzow Wielkopolski as the spider in the European web
Europe is therefore very important for TP Vision and that is why the company has in recent years placed more and more focus on an optimized distribution network and one central production facility in Europe. Years ago Philips had hundreds of production facilities around the world, but today that is no longer efficient and you can save a lot of costs by centralizing and optimizing. TPV Technology already opened a new plant in Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland in 2008, where mass production of low-end TVs in particular took place at that time. Mass production of mid-end and high-end Philips TVs was added immediately in 2013 and in 2015 the giant factory in Poland also became the main hub for the distribution of televisions and monitors.
The complex in Gorzow Wielkopolski is now more than 130,000 square meters in size and employs, depending on the season, between 2,000 and 2,500 employees. Almost everything happens at this central location; from assembly, packaging and distribution, to quality control, customer service and the processing of returned products. And the TPV factory does not only do that for Philips. TPV Technology is a large party that works for multiple brands, and so TVs from, among others, Bang & Olufsen and Panasonic are rolling off the band. In smaller numbers indeed.
So you can actually see TPV's factory as the place where everything happens, from the moment the TVs have to be put together. The individual parts are produced in China, where TPV has a large display factory. Among other things, substrates of 8.6 square meters are produced here, where smaller panels can then be cut out and the first form of a TV can be observed. That only applies to LCD, because the OLED panels used in Philips TVs come from LG Display. The so-called 'carcass work' is taking place in China, the first assembly of a number of important components. The panel comes to Europe in almost complete form and part of the motherboard has already been assembled. Everything comes by boat or by train to Poland, although TPV has been trying more and more to opt for the train in recent years. Not only is this faster than the boat (21 days versus 39 days) but also a lot better for the environment. More than 100 trucks arrive in Gorzow Wielkopolski every day to unload things that are produced and partly assembled in China.
The OLED934 series is equipped with the new 2019 LG Display OLED panel. According to Philips, the new generation has a better fill-rate (ratio between total pixel area and actual luminous surface), and that would reduce the risk of burn-in.
