Re: Απάντηση: -Samsung TV Line-up 2020-

Samsung Q900S/Q950TS QLED TV Review: To Infinity And Beyond

Verdict

Samsung has worked absolute wonders with the 75Q900S/75Q950TS. It delivers key advances over its predecessor in almost every picture quality department, taking LCD screen technology to new heights that emphasise LCD’s innate advantages while also parking a tank on OLED’s traditional picture quality lawn. And just for good measure, it even fits all this picture progress inside a truly revolutionary design.

Samsung QE55Q80TA unboxing and picture settings.

Η QE Q80T ,αντικαθιστά την QE Q70RA (του 2019), είναι η εισαγωγική Full Array Local Dimming LCD (με 50 ζώνες ελέγχου) του 2020.

QE55Q80T : VA panel RGB vertical stripe,
no anti-reflective filter,no ultra viewing angle,
F.A.L.D. Direct LED LCD,
Wide Color Gamut (quantum dot enhancement film-QDEF aka QLED),
100/120Hz με M.C.F.I.+αναβόσβησμα του οπίσθιου φωτισμού
Dynamic metadata format:HDR10+
Static metadata format:HDR10,HLG
HDMI 4:eARC
no Divx and no xVid formats from the media player. no DTS soundtracks either,no Dolby Vision.

We unbox the Samsung Q80T 4K QLED TV, and go through the picture settings in the user menu to see what's new for 2020.

Our review sample is the 55-inch Samsung QE55Q80T, specific model number QE55Q80TATXXU.

55"...[hdtvtest.co.uk]...Samsung QE55Q80TA review

We review the Samsung QE55Q80T which is positioned as a direct replacement for last year's Q70R, and found a number of improvements, including higher peak brightness & 4K@120Hz at 10-bit 4:4:4 support among others.
Our review sample is the model number QE55Q80TATXXU.

source:[hdtvtest.co.uk]

2020 QE Q80T is improved vs QE Q70R (2019)

FALD : 50 zones (5 vertical columns x 10 horizontal rows),local dimming does not turn off.
Native ANSI blacks was around 0.03 cd/m2 if peak white was set at 120 cd/m2,
Local dimming algorithm prioritizes minimizing blooming artifacts and keeping top and bottom letterbox bars inky black, but the downside is that small bright objects can look darker than reference, with some vignetting effect.
Due to the limited number of dimmable zones occasionally the local dimming algorithm would get tripped up on challenging material, causing luminance fluctuations.
With subtitles reduced blooming and backlight fluctuation.

Improvement in motion handling, native 5:5 pull-down has been implemented,so you no longer need to engage any motion setting to see smooth pans in 24 fps movies without telecine judder.
Engaging Picture Clarity Settings would increase motion resolution from the sample-and-hold baseline of 300 lines to 1080 or even higher.

HDR peak brightness on 10% window measured: 863 cd/m2
Peak light output on full field : 506 cd/m2

DCI-P3 color gamut coverage: 93.3 % (WCG aka QLED,quantum dot enhancement film)
Rec.2020 color gamut coverage: 73 % (WCG aka QLED,quantum dot enhancement film)

Like all Samsung HDR tvs during playback of HDR10 content ,QE Q80T adapts its PQ EOTF tone curve according to the mastering display luminance metadata rather then Max CLL,so once properly setup the television will preserve all bright specular highlight details, sometimes at the expense of overall APL-Average Picture Level.Note that I specifically said properly setup, because the default factory settings still over brighten the PQ EOTF even in the most accurate movie picture preset ,but at least, this can be calibrated to track closer to the ST2084 standard .The good news is that Samsung has provided a way for dynamic tone mapping to be disabled this year for more accurate reproduction of creative intent.

Dynamic tone mapping can be disabled (local dimming : high)
Dynamic tone mapping enabled (local dimming : standard)

4K 120Hz support at 10bit 4:4:4 on one HDMI (input 4) port for X Box X or PS5

Thanks to the absence of the ultra wide angle viewing angle and superior anti-glare filter implemented of the step up models ,the Q80T should boost the highest native contrast among Samsung FALD tvs this year.

Highly Recommended award.

Αφού έχουν πιο πολλά πιξελάκια... :silly:

00:08:18 - Steve reviews the Samsung QE55Q95T
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek3044hYP34

...where the first control you see is Brightness, which actually adjusts the brightness of the TV. It’s what was previously called the backlight control, and the traditional ‛brightness’ control, which actually adjusts the black level, is now called Shadow Detail. The latter is found further down the menu system beneath the gamma control, and will hopefully avoid a situation where unfamiliar users end up destroying their TV's black levels in a misguided attempt to increase the overall brightness.

The motion controls are now in a sub-menu called Picture Clarity and here you can turn the frame interpolation on or off. You can also customise the Blur Reduction and Judder Reduction settings, as well as turn the LED Clear Motion (black frame insertion) control on and off. This sub-menu is where you'll also now find the Noise Reduction control.

The Local Dimming control has three settings: Low, Standard and High, but unlike the Q950TS the Low setting doesn’t turn off the local dimming.
On the Q95T there appears to be no way of turning off local dimming, making it impossible to measure the native black level.

Verdict

The Samsung Q95T is an excellent 4K TV, and despite not including everything found on the company’s 8K TVs, still manages to deliver a great picture, good sound and solid package of features.

This TV is attractively designed and extremely well made, with a smaller but still very solid stand. The optional ‛no-gap’ bracket allows it to be mounted flush against the wall, and the One Connect box means you only need to hide a single thin cable.

The SDR and HDR images are accurate, the upscaling is excellent and the local dimming highly effective despite using fewer independent zones than last year. The gaming features are extensive, combined with a ‛blink-and-you’ll-miss-it’ input lag of only 9.4ms.

The Tizen operating system remains class-leading, with a slick and responsive interface that’s now easier on the eye. Of the current 2020 platforms it’s also the most comprehensive, with every video streaming service you can imagine.

So what don’t you get compared to Samsung’s 8K models? Well obviously there’s no 8K panel or neural networked AI processing to take advantage of all those additional pixels. There are also more local dimming zones, although that doesn’t make as big a difference as you might think. The 8K TVs also have Object Track Sound Plus, which adds two more speakers, but if you’re planning on using a soundbar that’s largely irrelevant.

The other issue when it comes to Samsung’s 8K TVs is that the smallest screen size is currently 65 inches, so anyone wanting a less imposing panel really has to be looking at the company’s 4K range. Thanks to a recent price drop, the QE55Q95T also seems fairly competitive in terms of cost.

So if you’re looking for an accomplished 4K LCD TV that has an impressive picture quality and more than enough features to keep even the most demanding consumer happy, the Samsung Q95T comes highly recommended.

Highly recommended

Samsung QE55Q80T vs Sony KD55XH9505

We compare the picture quality of the Samsung Q80T QLED vs Sony XH95 (also marketed as the Bravia X950H in the USA) 4K LED TV in a side-by-side comparison. Aspects covered include local dimming, colour accuracy, motion, upscaling, screen uniformity, HDR, game mode, reflection handling and viewing angle.
Both 2020 TVs are 55 inches in screen size which retails for £1599 in the UK at launch, model number Samsung QE55Q80T and Sony KD-55XH9505 respectively.

Note: From 7:22 to 8:11 during the HDR luminance heatmap comparison, the source footage exhibited greyer blacks and more shadow detail than the filmed footage of the televisions. This is because the source footage was captured in HDR10 PQ (perceptual quantisation) and then rendered in SDR for this video, not to mention our camera didn't have enough dynamic range to capture all the shadow detail from the TV screens. In other words, the heatmap analysis is only valid for brightness above 100 nits owing to how it was conducted.

...Native Contrast 7144 : 1 (στα 100 cd/m²) άρα black=0,014 cd/m²...:chinscratch:

...The 2% window is significantly darker; this is due to the TV's CE (frame) dimming, which can't be disabled and may make dark scenes appear darker than they should.

Our measurements were done after calibration, using the 'Movie' Picture Mode. Brightness was set to maximum and gamma was set to 2.2. Contrast was left at its default setting and Contrast Enhancer was set to 'Medium'...

Note that the EU version of the QE Q80T is different. It doesn't have the ultra viewing angle layer, and it has a worse local dimming feature.
The QE Q85T, which is exclusive to the EU, appears to be the closest model to the one we've tested QN Q80T.
