I currently have 506 apps installed on my 3Gs & thinking back as best as I can, it seems that ever since going beyond 485, Spotlight frequently crashes...hard, taking out the whole phone & resulting in the Apple logo for usually about 5 mins.
When Spotlight works, which is most of the time & I use it a lot obviously having no use for home screens anymore, it works great... very fast even with that many apps, but it crashes 2-3 times a day among dozens of instances of use each day.
When Spotlight crashes, the screen makes a split second static-like image, kind of like what's used in movies when a security camera is taken out & there's a flash of white & black thin lines across the screen for a split second.
There does not appear to be any other problems having so many apps... oh, and yes, I actually do make periodic use of almost every app. I am admittedly running 3.1 beta build 7C116a & will post in the dev area too, but wanted to get iPhone OS dev eyeballs on this situation wherever, however I can.
