Minnesota County Considering E-Cig Ban
Another week, another county looking to ban electronic cigarettes – this common headline comes to us this week from Ramsey County, Minnesota, as the Board of Commissioners there held a public hearing Tuesday, September 8 to decide whether or not vaping/e-cig usage should be banned from all the places that traditional smoking is currently prohibited.
There were seven people who spoke at the public hearing and all were in favor of the ordinance. If approved, it would treat e-cigarettes just like tobacco products, banning them from places where smoking is not allowed. It would also prohibit smoking or vaping within 25 feet of a building entrance. A vote by the county board will happen in two weeks.
Chris Turner, with the Association for Nonsmokers –Minnesota, is in favor of the ordinance. “Right now with e-cigarettes there are chemicals and metal particles that are found in the emissions so no one wants to be exposed to this,” she said.
While the notion of banning e-cig usage is obviously nothing new for those of us following the industry news, it is a bit surprising that there was nobody to speak up in favor of e-cig usage. Remember folks – if you don’t speak up now while the laws and local ordinances are being discussed and voted upon, it will very much be too late to make yourself heard.
