Και μια
κριτική από το γνωστό και μη εξαιρετέο Ken Kessler στο HiFiNews. Ενα από τα πιό ανόητα ρηβιούς που έχω διαβάσει. Ξεκινάει με ένα ατέλειωτο δοκίμιο για το Crowdfunding, συνεχίζει με αρνητικές κριτικές για την εμφάνιση του Geek, και ξοδεύει από μιά παράγραφο για να γκρινιάξει για την ονομασία του Awesomifier και την υπερβολική θερμοκρασία του μηχανήματος σε κατάσταση λειτουργίας. (Για τα ζητήματα αυτά να πω ότι α) στη γυναίκα μου άρεσε πολύ το μηχανάκι, ειδικά το μπλε χρώμα, και εν πάση περιπτώσει είναι πολύ μικρό σε μέγεθος, ακόμα και κακάσχημο να ήταν, ποιος το βλέπει; και β) κανείς δεν είναι υποχρεωμένος να κρατάει συνεχώς στο χέρι του το dac όταν ακούει μουσική. Είναι ζεστό, αλλά δεν υπάρχει δα και κίνδυνος για εγκαύματα.
Tέλος πάντων όταν επιτέλους καταλήγει να περιγράψει τον ήχο του μηχανήματος έχει μόνο διθυράμβους να γράψει για παράδειγμα: "Take the opening to J Geils Band’s ‛Cruisin’ For A Love’, with its piercing mouth harp. One’s tendency is to focus closely on this lead instrument to the detriment of all else, for it is a solo note lasting for eight seconds.
This was the first time in 43 years that I heard a subtle percussive count-in beneath the harp playing."
Ή ακόμη Johnny Rivers’ ‛Rockin’ Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu’ [United Artists] ices the bass with juke-joint piano, fuzz tones, hand-claps, baritone backing vocalists – a kitchen-sink experience accented with cow-bell, high-hat cymbals... it’s rock’n’roll in its most raucous mood.
The Geek Out delivered its majesty and power in a way that one would assume was the sole preserve of full-sized components of uncompromised complexity.
Και το δια ταύτα: Unacceptably hot after mere minutes and with the aesthetics of a brick, the Geek Out nearly undermines its astonishing sound quality with behaviour and looks that flatter its rivals. Audioquest’s sublime DragonFly is the default selection, Cambridge’s funky DacMagic XS is the bargain of the decade and Meridian’s sexy Explorer will seduce connoisseurs. The Geek Out is astounding, but made for masochists.
Δηλαδή, για να καταλάβω, το geek έχει τον καλύτερο ήχο από όλα, αλλά καλά θα κάνετε να προτιμήσετε αγγλικά προϊόντα γιατί είναι πιο δροσερά και έχουν καλύτερη εμφάνιση. Κοινώς, μας δουλεύουν ψιλό γαζί.
