Gibson Guitar to buy TEAC, add "Cool Japan" engineering technology

(Reuters) - Gibson Guitar GIBSN.UL, known for producing electric guitars used legendary rock guitarists such as Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, said on Friday that it was buying a majority share in Japanese audio equipment manufacturer TEAC Corp (6803.T) for 4.88 billion yen ($51.9 million).
Nashville-based Gibson, which will pay 31 yen per share for TEAC, said the deal would add "Cool Japan" engineering technology into the music and audio lifestyle arena into which it is diversifying.
Gibson said it will purchase 54.4 percent of TEAC's outstanding shares from funds operated by Phoenix Capital.

Εντυπωσιακό το γεγονός ότι ακόμα και μιά από τις παλιότερες και πιό ιστορικές εταιρείες της Υψηλής πιστότητας έχει κεφαλαιοποίηση μόλις 70εκ ευρώ, πάνω κάτω. Δείχνει πόσο περιθωριακό είναι τελικά το χόμπι μας...

That gruff American rocker, Gibson Guitar Corp., has gotten tired of its old life. Instead of just suing copycats and putting out the occasional robot axe, it's now looking to diversify, having spent $52 million on a 54 percent stake in Japanese firm TEAC. The last we heard from TEAC, it was making things like headphones and retro-styled radios, which maybe gives us a hint as to where this new partnership is headed. After all, it's not like the path between music brand and consumer electronics hasn't been trodden to a pulp already.

Σίγουρα τα ηλεκτρικά έγχορδα εξελίσσονται με autotune , usb out κ.ο.κ. αλλά που θα πάει το γαϊτανάκι κανείς δε ξέρει…
