Google Research: Temperature not a major factor in hard disk failures

Logic and conventional wisdom have always pointed to temperature being one of the key environmental factors affecting the reliability of hard disk drives. That’s not the case, however, according to research done by Google on the hard disks in their data centers.
Conclusion: Anything between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius will not be adversely detrimental to your hard disk. And if you change hard disk drives within three years anyway, then even temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius won’t make any difference.
Do you pro-actively change the hard disks in your servers? Or do you wait until they fail?
