Pioneer to launch TV co-developed with Sharp
Pioneer will introduce its first Sharp sourced TV product into Europe this year. The model, thought to be a 37-inch LCD TV, will utilize a high-end panel from Sharp. Speaking at the CES, however, Tom Haga, CEO of Pioneer Electronics USA said the screen would not debut in the US until 2009 and that plans for Japan were still “unclear.” During the autumn of 2007, Sharp acquired a 14 per cent stake in Pioneer, giving the plasma and in-car specialist a much needed cash injection.
A more definitive global strategy for both companies is expected when the pair begin a new financial year on April 1.
