Solitude stands by the window
She turns her head as I walk in the room
I can see by her eyes she's been waiting
Standing in the slant of the late afternoon

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

Solitude stands in the doorway
And I'm struck once again by her black silhouette
By her long cool stare and her silence
I suddenly remember each time we've met

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

And she says "I've come to set a twisted thing straight"
And she says "I've come to lighten this dark heart"
And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear
And I say "I've never thought of finding you here"

I turn to the crowd as they're watching
They're sitting all together in the dark in the warm
I wanted to be in there among them
I see how their eyes are gathered into one

And then she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

And she says "I've come to set a twisted thing straight"
And she says"l've come to lighten this dark heart"
And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear
And I say "I've never thought of finding you here"

Solitude stands in the doorway
And I'm struck once again by her black silhouette
By her long cool stare and her silence
I suddenly remember each time we've met

And she turns to me with her hand extended
Her palm is split with a flower with a flame

Richard Nixon had Elvis over to the White House once, and made him a honorary narcotics agent. Nixon got his picture taken with the King. An odd story, though, from rock critic Stu Werbin: "It seems that the good German who arranges the White House concerts for the President and his guests managed to travel the many channels that lead only in rare instances to Col. Tom Parker's phone line. Once connected, he delivered what he considered the most privileged invitation. The President requests Mr. Presley to perform. The Colonel did a little quick figuring and then told the man that Elvis would consider it an honor. For the President, Elvis's fee, beyond travelling expenses and accomodations for his back-up group, would be $25.000. The good German gasped.
" 'Col. Parker, nobody gets paid for playing for the President!'
" 'Well, I don't know about that, son,' the Colonel responded abruptly, 'but there's one thing I do know. Nobody asks Elvis Presley to play for nothing.' "

If the doors of the generous ones are locked,
The doors of the sky won't be locked. (sky refers to heaven/god).

If the doors of the generous ones are locked,
The doors of the sky won't be locked.
God is alive and sublime to the angels,
In his spirit they'll rise above.

God is alive.

Cause they are close to him,
They will thank and praise him.

God is alive.

Six wings around (of the angels),
They are flying (around god).

If they are locked
If they are locked,
If the doors of the generous ones are locked,
The doors of the sky won't be locked.

God is alive and sublime
God is alive and sublime,
God is alive and sublime to the angels,
In his spirit they'll rise above

Aκούστε το. Θα έλεγα αυτή η εκδοχή μου αρέσει καλύτερα. Άκρως μουσειακό τραγούδι!

"I love this Byrds version. Harmonies are handsome, and whoever's doing that pretty picking (Clarence White?), he really helps make it a great recording too.
Jimmy Page is on record as saying he was a big admirer of Clarence's playing.
What a shame he got killed in the '70s by a drunk driver while putting his guitar in the back of a car."
