[Background]
Last year, a large number of full-HD projectors from both the LCD model and DLPR model makers were sold on the market. Blu-ray and HD DVD players, next-generation players that are capable of full-HD image output, were also introduced into the market, resulting in advances occurring across the board in terms of the adoption of full-HD technology in flat panel TV sets, video cameras and other video equipment. The HDMI specification version under which these full-HD devices connect to each other has been upgraded to HDMI ver.1.3. In 2007, the projector industry is expected to launch full-HD models similar to what they released last year, along with some minor changes incorporated to support HDMI1.3 with more low prices.

[Design concept / strategy]
Marantz achieved compliance with HDMI ver.1.3 with the VP-11S1H; however, to survive in the current marketplace, competition must now focus on providing high-level models in the price range below $10,000. Sales above this range are likely to be severely limited.
For this reason, Marantz will be appealing to customers one new models for 2007 - the VP-15S1, which is a lower-cost version of the VP-11S1H. The VP-15S1 is the leading model designed to compete with $8,000 class LCD projectors.

1. HDMI ver.1.3
The HDMI connectors of VP-15S1 is supported with HDMI ver.1.3 (Deep Color) as well as VP-11S1H. It has passed by latest authorization test standard ϴ§HDMI ver.1.3bϴ¨.
Deep ColorϴKThis feature has been achieved by extending the color depth. In the past, 8-bit RGB or Y/Cb/Cr was supported, and this was generally referred to as True Color or full color. However, ϴ§Deep Color,ϴ¨ the new specification, supports up to 16 bits, including 10 bits and 12 bits. The VP-11S1H supports up to 12 bits. In pitching the fact that Deep Color is supported, it is necessary for the product concerned to support up to 12 bits at the least, and supporting this automatically means that higher speed is also supported.

2. Dual Iris
The iris employed previously in the VP-11S1 was incorporated in the projection lens (after DLPR Chip), but in the VP-15S1, an iris has also been included on the lamp side (before DLPR Chip). By adding the lamp-side iris, the design of the optical system for the part shown in orange below has been renewed and optimized (Atsmahica rod and four lenses).

Opening and closing these irises allows the brightness and contrast to be set to the desired levels.

The position No.2 is an almost identical mode to the closed iris condition of the previous model. Theoretically, the projection iris ON/OFF combined with the lamp iris ON/OFF provides a total of four combinations. Opposite pattern to No.2 is possible, but as there is negligible difference in the effect, they have not been included.

In addition to the previously mentioned dual iris, the VP-15S1 surpasses the VP-11S1 in contrast, achieving a value of 10000:1.

The VP-15S1, on the other hand, uses a 6 segment CW (RGBRGB) to achieve high brightness. The color filter characteristics and the angles for each color (distribution) have however been re-examined and newly developed.
Both of these color wheels are 98 mm in diameter, with larger apertures than those in other companiesϴ¦ models, and they contribute to high brightness.

6. New printing design matching for Front and Ceiling installation
The printed position of the Marantz logo has been changed so that even when the VP-15S1 are suspended from the ceiling the logo will not appear upside down. The Marantz logo and model name, which had previously appeared on the side of the lens, have now been positioned on the upper surface of the unit on the same line as the other license logos.

Custom optics by Konica Minolta (+165% Lens shift, 1.45x zoom)
The familiar Konica Minolta custom lens is seeing continued use in the new models. As the DLPR projector with the greatest shift range, the display can be moved between -85% and +165%. The zoom is 1.45X, which is relatively high for a DLPR projector. The optical block has been sealed perfectly, so unlike liquid crystal projectors, there will be no dust or dirt build-up on the panel over time that could degrade image quality.

High quality video processor by GENNUM GF9351
The renowned GENNUM GF9351, used widely by other companies, has again been used as the image processor. Originally developed for business use, this device is difficult to use effectively; however, based on previous experience with the VP-12S4 and VP-11S1, Marantz is now in the best position to bring out the full potential of the GF9351.

Marantz projectors are well known for providing good images ϴ§straight out of the box,ϴ¨ using the factory settings; however, in addition to three standard gamma settings, there are 5 gamma presets with intermediate image quality settings as well as an extensive Fine-tuning menu that enables the desired image settings to be achieved. Up to 18 memory slots are available to save the settings so they can be reloaded at any time to suit different source types.

A versatile array of input and control terminals
HDMI has now become the industry standard for connecting audio-visual home consumer electronics, and the different types of equipment users want to connect increases daily. As with previous models, VP-15S1 have two built-in HDMI systems. To support existing analog signal equipment, they also have two component video systems, as well as single separate systems for S video, video and D-Sub, enabling a wide range of equipment to be connected directly without need of an AV amplifier.

All key back lighting Remote Control
The remote control has a large number of keys to enable direct control without having to step through menus, but despite having so many keys, the remote is easy to operate in low-light environments, as every key has its own backlight.

Εδω και δυο χρονια που εμφανιστηκε ο z4 ειχε 2 ιριδες.
Μια στην λαμπα με επιλογες auto,open,close και μια στο φακο με 63 διακριτα βηματα.

Direct comparison VP11S1 and VP15S1 from the Marantz IFA camp

Before the IFA in Berlin it arrived short, the new Marantz VP 15S1. Also the large brother, the VP 11S1 was provided. The packing was, as not differently used, extremely shockproof and already nearly like a safe. When unpacking the Vorfreude was to be hardly still increased then.

The first view revealed immediately also the first difference of the two contractors from the same house. If the VP 11S1 is rather bright and egg shells colored for the dwelling meant, then the VP 15S1 in a friendly, not completely matte black presents itself. The correct color for the cellar cinema! Otherwise the VP15S1 resembles the VP11S1 as an egg the other one. Even dsaemtliche connections are identical. Two component entrances (YUV) and two HDMI of 1,3 entrances are present and should be sufficient in such a way for all connection desires.

Also on the inside everything seems as with the VP 11S1 at first sight. But with exact Hinsehen the VP 15S1 reveals differences nevertheless. First the lamp achievement was increased by 700 aluminium (Ansi lumen) to 1000 aluminium. With it now also larger canvases should have to be beaconed. Then the iris was changed. The VP 11S1 had still two positions gives it with the VP 15S1 now to three positions and dual - iris. Altogether these two measures are to increase the contrast to full 10.000:1 (VP 11S1 6.500:1). The moreover one still on the color wheel one worked. The six-segment, 98mm through-measuring color wheel works now with "Frame rate Conversion" for extremely small RBE.

The high-quality objective of Konica Minolta with large vertical Lensshift and super sharpness over the whole display space, the exzellente gene around video processing GF9351 with 24p remained. First all of this permits the conclusion that the VP 11S1 received a successor. But we wait off...

First of all the projector is in-measured. Up to two menu options more with the VP 15S1, gives it there no differences in the menu organization. These two points concern the Luminanzverlauf and the colour tone, which are not active however when passing on over HDMI. First there are only differences in the behavior of the regulation. So it is to be affected in no preselected color temperature possible with 100 IRISH the colors. Thus remain always red, green and blue with 100 IRISH as frozen. Among them however the colors can be co-ordinated very well with D65. The different iris positions show then also the largest difference with 0 IRISH and 100 IRISH. The deviations of the colors are very small thereby so that also a Preset could be sufficient. Brightness and contrast are always equal and with correct preselection of the gamma curve fall also the gamma process always good-naturedly out (between 2,27 and 2,39).



The difference is remarkable in the CIE Chart. Here it is to be seen clear that the color wheel nevertheless somewhat different is:

Very well the easy green shift and the red shift are to be recognized with the VP 15S1, which results from the smaller green segment and the larger red segment. Further it is to be seen that the D65-Punkt lies with the VP15S1 far since no attitude functions here. Here it is then also necessary to thus select the smaller evil the most optimal Preset.

Now however to the picture comparison: First a test of the video processor was intended. One passed on over YUV with 576i of the D-box. N24 and N-TV showed like well the Gennum work. The scrolling text at the lower edge was always readably and nevertheless showed up differentiates between the VP 11S1 that sharp appeared stung always and to the VP 15S1 all this a small soft design subjected. Also now and then smaller artifacts showed up with the VP15S1 that here nevertheless everything is not as with the VP 11S1. This is visible only in the direct comparison, but on very high level differently.

In the case of passing on over HDMI then the fraternity no more was not to be recognized. Convinced the VP 11S1 with a full red with the throne hall in Gladiator exaggerated it the VP 15S1 somewhat. If the green of the meadows was in "master of the rings" live and in color with the VP 11S1, it was already rather herbstlich and the grass already more yellowish with the VP 15S1. But as said, everything on unbelievably high level similarly and also really only in the direct comparison perceptibly. The list sat down away in passing on of hp material and showed the VP 11S1 always a Quaentchen better through-drawn and particularly in dark display spaces as well as the picture depth overwhelming.

The king is thus not dead however the throne has now two chairs: a large and a something more smaller for the brother, on which you govern like brothers the High end class!

Marantz VP-15S1

Das Unternehmen Marantz stellt auf der IFA-2007 einen Full-HD-DLP-Projektor vor. Der Marantz VP-15S1 verwendet den selben DLP Chip wie im 11S1. Übernommen wurde auch die hochwertige Videoverarbeitung, sie verwendet den Genum-Chipsatz GF9351. Für einen Marantz-Beamer hat der neuer 15S1 eine hohe Grundhelligkeit von 1000Ansilumen. Dadurch ist der VP-15S1 auch in der Lage größere Leinwände mit „Bild“ zu füllen. Ein zweifach IRIS ist aber auch vorhanden um den Schwarzwert zu optimieren. Bei Einsatz dieser ist aber die Lichtausbeute deutlich geringer. Ein neues Farbrad mit „Frame Rate Conversion“ soll den Regenbogeneffekt minimieren. Die Lautstärke des 15 S1 ist mit unter 30db angegeben. 2 x HDMI 1.3 stehen als Anschlüsse neben den üblichen analogen zur Verfügung. Ab September soll der 15S1 für gut 8000,- Euro zu haben sein.

…Μπάμπη είμαι σίγουρος ότι λίγο πολύ η τιμή θα είναι η γνώστη Marantz… VP-11S2 1080p DLP Projector $19999.99…. Long Throw - VP11S2L $21999.99 στην Αμερική ;)

Τώρα στη Ελλάδα List Price χμμμμ εεεε να μην είναι 19.999 Euro στο ξεκίνημα ;)

There's no reason for me to think that ANSI CR isn't every bit what the 11S1 was/is (in the 800 or so range), but you gotta understand that unless your theater is a black hole, you're never going to see it. Don Stewart showed me a glass 35mm slide once with a checkerboard pattern that is used for calibration purposes that measures 2500:1 ANSI and in a real room was like 250. This was one of the reasons that they developed the Firehawk. At the chip level DLP can deliver a pixel-to-pixel CR that is equal to full on/off, and that number gets crushed through the optical engine. To deliver 800 out of the lens is nothing short of amazing. I stress constantly the importance of a good room (we have a good room at the shows).

The glass used in the VP-15 is the same as what is in the 11. The difference is the 11 is hand selected for each projector. So is the chip. As far as the chip goes I believe we are the only manufacturer to inspect and choose the chip for the PJ that's being built. It is an incredibly time consuming and expensive process and that contributes to the cost. The 15 uses off-the-shelf chips. The 15 uses out-of-the-box lenses. It is more of a mass-produced product and that is one of the reasons the price is so much lower. The 11 (1 and 2) uses a custom color wheel that has embedded color correction that "notches" out the excess yellow that is in the SHP lamp's spectrum. That eats up about 30% of the light right there. No other manufacturer uses that wheel. So it also costs alot. The 11 spins at 6x (10,800 RPM), the 15 spins at 5x. No other manufacturer spins as fast. The result is an "ease" of watching that almost (almost I said) approaches analog. The 15 is more like other products in that particular category. That might seem like nitpicking, but when you are building a product like this you have to take all of these things into consideration.

But the 15 is half the price. And overall it comes within 90% of the performance. I think we'll do really well with it. The extra brightness will come in handy for less than perfect conditions and for people who want more of a "television" type appearance than that of a theater.

It's going to make a lot of people really happy owners.
