First rock album I ever bought. issued on 1967. Bought it one year later. 1968. I was 14.
"Conceptually bound only by the compact genius of Ray Davies' writing, Something Else was the Kinks' last great album of songs before Davies became consumed by operatic studies of a disappearing Britain (1968's The Village Green Preservation Society, 1969's Arthur). The schoolyard romp "David Watts," the delicate envy of "Two Sisters," the plaintive rapture in guitarist Dave Davies' vocal on "Death of a Clown," the young lovers bathed in London twilight in "Waterloo Sunset": They are all complete dramas, concise in their emotional detail and depiction of fading majesty and morals, with harpsichord and brass adding shades of loss and yearning to the Kinks' basic spunk. A shocking commercial stiff (it peaked at Number 153 in Billboard on its U.S. release in early 1968), Something Else may still be the best Kinks album you've never heard." The Dean :worshippy:

Κι εμένα μου αρέσει πολύ το Something Else by the Kinks.
Δεν ασχολούμαι με country (και γενικότερα με Americana), όμως ο παρακάτω δίσκος που βρήκα σε προσφορά και αγόρασα την προηγούμενη εβδομάδα μου άρεσε πολύ.. Πάρα πολύ, τον ακούω συνέχεια τις τελευταίες μέρες, εξού και το post μου εδώ. Τέτοια φωνή, συναίσθημα και παραγωγή είχα καιρό να ακούσω.

*No, not a reissue of one of the 80s new-romantic band's early albums, but their first album in 29 years. Led by the fittingly named Steve Strange - and most famous for 1980 track Fade To Grey - Visage were one of the pioneers of the scene that helped popularise bands like Ultravox, Duran Duran and ABC. Hearts and Knives is a solid album steeped in nostalgia. So don't expect any modern twist on music's new-romantic period. It sure starts out on high beam with Never Enough, which has a hint of a synth hook akin to Donna Summer's I Feel Love. Dreamer I Know is delightful, like a cross between Erasure and Spandau Ballet, and I Am Watching jaunts along in a dainty electro-disco style, and then branches out with everything from cheesy guitar wails to playful synth runs. The standout is the tougher, slightly twisted electronic rock of last track Diaries Of A Madman. But really, it's one for the fans - and those needing an early-80s fix.

In January 2013, Visage announced their new line-up to consist of vocalist Steve Strange and bassist Steve Barnacle (who had worked with the band on their 1984 album Beat Boy), along with Robin Simon[1] (former guitarist in Ultravox and Magazine) and Lauren Duvall on vocals.
The band's official website confirmed that former Visage/Magazine keyboardist Dave Formula, and former Simple Minds keyboardist Mick MacNeil have also contributed to the album.[2] In a 2012 interview on the chat show Loose Women, Strange stated that former Visage members Midge Ure and Rusty Egan had also worked on the album to some extent.[
