Some interesting info from the video posted on . I watched both videos, and here are some interesting bits that I believe have not been covered yet on the forum.
Deep Learning Subject Detection and focal point calculation occurs up to 60 times per second.
It looks like OM1 performs AI subject detection and calculation in 16ms, where EM1X took 66ms + 17ms for the same process. Because of the increased frequency for subject detection and focal point calculation, requiring the subject as well as re-adjusting the focus in sequence is better compared to previous model.
OM1 uses depth map to aid in focusing for subject detection modes.
Deep Learning subject detect AF also utilizes depth map to try to focus on the subject's focal plane to try to prevent the focal point from jumping to the background or foreground. These two findings are are consistent with what some of the OM1 users have already reported for BIF. OM1 often does a good job requiring focus in sequence, as well as remaining focus on subject even with contrasty backgrounds. Looks like these behaviors are the results of careful product design.
Minimizing weight increase.
The development team re-evaluated every camera part that weighed more than .5 grams and tried to reduce the weight. They manage to keep the weight increase compared to EM1 mk III minimal (under 20 grams), while increasing battery capacity, weather resistance, deeper grip, and larger EVF. I did not realize that they were still trying very hard to keep weight down in OM1. I'm glad they are still trying.
Another thing I noticed during the interview is how much the OM representative emphasized that they want to hear the voice of the customers. He mentioned multiple times throughout the interview, saying they are paying attention to customer feedback more than the end users probably realize. I think OM1 does indeed reflect a lot more of what many of the m43 users wanted. I get the impression that being independent from the Olympus Medical, maybe OMDS has more freedom to make their own decisions about product design and that they are trying to capitalize on it as much as possible.
