Stability:
SECTION 5: REACTIVITY DATA
Stable Incompatibility (materials to avoid):
Maintain storage between 10 and 30 oC. Avoid strong oxidizing and reducing agents; strong acids and bases. Avoid halogens, alkali metals, inter-halogens. Heat generating reactions can be expected if the product comes into contact with aluminum and water. The product weakens aluminum.
Conditions to Avoid:
Keep product from freezing or excessive heat. Hazardous Polymerization:
Will not occur.
Hazardous Decomposition Products:
Toxic fumes generated during decomposition. Other Information:
The product has an alloying effect on metal surfaces such as copper, tin, lead, zinc, gold, and silver.
SECTION 6: HEALTH HAZARDS
Effects of Exposure:
To the best of our knowledge the chemical, physical and toxicological properties of gallium-
indium-tin Eutectic blends have not been thoroughly investigated and reported.
Inhalation:
No inhalation hazards of gallium have been identified. Good industrial hygiene practice
suggests limiting exposure to particulates.
Eye Contact:
Prolonged or repeated contact may result in eye irritation.
Skin Contact:
Prolonged or repeated contact may result in skin irritation. Some sources suggest gallium may cause dermatitis, although patch testing on humans with metallic gallium did not cause a positive reaction.
Ingestion:
Evidence suggest low toxicity due to poor absorption by the oral route. Chronic Effects:
Intravenous administration of gallium to humans cause metallic taste, skin rashes, and bone
marrow depression,as well as anorexia, nausea and vomiting. May cause damage to kidneys.
Carcinogenicity:
This product does not contain any ingredient designated by IARP, NTP, ACGIH or OSHA as a
probable human carcinogen.
Medical Conditions Generally aggravated by Overexposure:
No Data Found.
SECTION 7: EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION
General protective and hygienic measures:
As with any chemical, wash your hands before and after handling.
Respiratory Protection:
In emergency cases such as fire and oxide smoke, use a filter apparatus and P3 particulate level
cartridge.
Ventilation:
Provide adequate ventilation. Use local exhaust as needed to maintain airborne exposure below
control limits.
Eye Protection:
Wear safety glasses (with side shields) or goggles, to prevent potential contact with eyes.
Skin Protection:
Rubber protective gloves are recommended to avoid a repeated or permanent contact with the skin as the product will deplete skin oils. If necessary, use a skin protective hand lotion.
SECTION 8: FIRST AID PROCEDURES
General:
General instructions are not necessary.
Eye Contact:
Flush with clean water for a minimum of 15 minutes. See a physician after flushing eyes.
Skin Contact:
Wash hands with soap and water.
Inhalation:
Inhalation does not pose any risk.
Ingestion:
Keep Cool. Consult a physician and make this Safety Data Sheet Available.
Instructions for physician:
Specific measures to be taken are not known or documented. Carry out a symptomatic therapy.
SECTION 9: HANDLING AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
Hints For Handling:
Avoid Spilling. Avoid unnecessary contact. When Gallium-Indium-Tin Eutectic is handled in unsealed condition, it's quality and degree of purity may be impaired.
Storage:
Store the product in the original container, in a cool dry place, protected from temperatures below the given solidus point, which is ~12degrees C, for the Teo Audio mixtures. The plastic used as containers should be of a non-porous type, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene.
SECTION 10: INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISPOSAL
Product Recommendation:
Recycling should be given preference over disposal. If recycling is not possible, the product should be disposed of according to the given locally valid laws on waste disposal and regulations. The competent and associated authorities in the given area should be able to give the necessary information.
Cleaning Agents Recommended:
A solution of 2% hydrochloric Acid heated to approximately 60 degrees Celsius. Or, use a surfactant (detergent)/water solution for hard surface cleaning, and detergent and warm water for fabric. Wash separately on it's own. Preferably in a 'work sink', and not in any area where food or human consumables are prepared.
