We interview Stephen Auld from Dolby regarding the latest news on Dolby Vision and what the future holds for the format this coming year.

We met up with Dolby at CES 2018, with the message being Dolby Vision is becoming mainstream following its appearance on a Lenovo laptop and on TVs from as cheap as $600.

Dolby also acknowledged the elevated blacks (from Dolby Vision 4K Blu-rays) & luminance fluctuations (from certain iTunes movies on Apple TV 4K box) issues, and said that a fix is on the way.

-We compare the HDR10 Plus open-standard dynamic metadata format vs HDR10 static metadata, using two Panasonic 2018 OLED TVs, two OPPO 203 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players, and two HDR10+ 4K Blu-rays (two copies each of Journey to The South Pacific and A Beautiful Planet from Mill Creek Entertainment).
We used a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC 4K) with greater dynamic range and better low-light capability to capture the HDR10+ versus HDR10 footage.
To sum up, the differences we're seeing between HDR10 plus and HDR10 were more subtle than those we saw between Dolby Vision and HDR10.
P.S. Many thanks to Tyler Pruitt at Portrait Displays for his help in getting these HDR10+ 4K Blu-rays into our hands.

We analyse a number of 4K Blu-ray discs using the [Gamut Marker] function on the Sony BVM-HX310 to determine whether there are any colours that lie outside DCI-P3 colour gamut on Ultra HD Blu-ray movies.

Thanks to Nanosys for sponsoring this video.
