PLASMA TVs
There're eight plasma TVs slated for this year all styled in a svelte TruSlim frame that measures a mere 23.4mm thick, rivaling their LED-lit siblings. Nonetheless, the PK950 and PK750 panels are grouped under its premium Infinia line, endowed with NetCast, DLNA, optional Wi-Fi and wireless A/V upgrades. More importantly, both series deliver THX Display-certification and sport protective skin glass to reduce the outer glass and filter gap which causes detrimental internal reflections. The flagship PK950 plasmas are further bundled with Magic Wand remotes.

LCD TVs
The gradual shift in emphasis by LG from traditional lamp-based (read: CCFL) to LED-lit LCD TVs has resulted in a smaller lineup in this category. Nonetheless, the higher-end LD650 and LD550 entries still pack a punch with Netcast, DLNA and Wi-Fi support. These two series are primarily differenatiated by their motion engines of between 240Hz and 120Hz. Rounding up the ensemble is the LD350 which is the only HD-ready offering spanning 19- to 32-inch screen sizes.

LED-LCD TVs
LG is upping the stakes in the LED-lit TV competition by rolling out six different series, including the 3D-capable LE9500 models under its premium Infinia range. These are based on its new full LED slim panels that offer the best of both worlds: A 23.4mm-thin bezel and 8.5mm-wide panel frame, as well as LED backlighting with up to 240-segment local dimming to produce inky blacks. The LE9500s are also THX Display-certified for added reassurance in fine picture quality, while boasting all the previously mentioned frills and a borderless design based on a single sheet of glass in front.
One level down the Infinia LED family is the 240Hz LE8500 distinguished by the omission of 3D technology, narrow chassis and Magic Wand, followed by the 120Hz LE7500 with a lower-end LED Plus panel that delivers a more basic 16-segment local dimming. According to an LG spokesperson, the LE9500 and LE8500 are both due for Asia in the first half of 2010, albeit in slightly different configurations including axing the former's 3D capability.

COMMON FEATURES
New 480Hz scanning backlight technology
LG is possibly one of the first vendors to implement 480Hz video processing for LCD and LED-lit TVs to further minimize film judder and motion blurring. Its latest TruMotion 480Hz function is a hybrid solution based on an improved 240Hz frame interpolation algorithm and scanning backlight technology.
More content for NetCast entertainment access
For this year, LG's US-centric NetCast entertainment access has included more content and service providers. Most notable is Skype to enable users to do voice or video calls via their TV set which is attached to an optional camera with built-in microphone. Netflix, Vudu, YouTube, Napster and Yahoo widgets, and possibly CinemaNow and DivX TV were also mentioned at the press conference, though omitted in a related press release.
Extensive wireless connectivity
This encompasses two areas: Data and audio-visual. The former is catered for via a USB Wi-Fi addon to support NetCast and DLNA playback for streaming multimedia content from a PC. Likewise, a receiver adapter allows compatible LG panels to wirelessly transmit 1080p signals to a media hub with HDMI inputs within a 30m range.
Magic Wand remote control
Instead of button-laden remotes, high-end LG HDTVs will sport clickers loaded with accelerometers and other sensors which recognize hand gestures to provide Nintendo Wii-like interactivity. These controllers can also be used to interact with the displays' embedded games where available, much like a Wiimote.
