One of the new things about the Sanyo camcorders this year is that they feature a new technology called “3D DNR digital noise reduction.” The technology works by analyzing a number of frames and then comparing them to one another to create a clearer image. In practice, it really does reduce the image noise that one sees on the image. However, the noise reduction comes at the price of a smoothed out image and therefore a loss of detail. The image stabilization is digital: not lens-based or sensor-shift. It works well in both low and high light.
Something really interesting that we saw were the optional attachable lenses. These allow users to shoot better at the macro and telephoto levels. Sure other camera manufacturers make their own, but the Sanyo Xacti lenses seemed sharper than anything I’ve seen–and I’m a Canon user.
