The XBR55X900H has a BGR subpixel layout. This doesn't really affect picture quality, but it does affect text rendering when using the TV as a PC monitor

To activate Sony's X-Motion Clarity Plus feature, which helps to make the image look clearer and brighter in fast-moving scenes, set Motionflow to 'Custom' and adjust the Clearness slider to '1', and the Smoothness slider to '2'.

The X900H is advertised to have support for variable refresh rate technology. However, it isn't available yet and will be implemented in a future firmware update. As for 4k @ 120Hz, it likely requires an HDMI 2.1 source, of which there are none at this time. Once it's available, we'll retest it and provide an update.

For full-bandwidth signals like 4k @ 60 + 10-bit HDR, HDMI Signal Format must be set to 'Enhanced Format' for the input in use.

The TV was produced in April 2020 and came from the manufacturer's pool of "journalistic samples".

HDR
In HDR mode on the 10% board, the maximum luminance after 5 (five) minutes of measurement was 672 cd / m ^ 2.

The luminance process over time was very stable - slowly but steadily rising from the initial 599 cd / m ^ 2 to the final 672 cd / m ^ 2. This is a completely different behavior than last year's Bravia 55AG8.

Summary

Excellent, deep and pure black, faithfully reproduced colors, stable and precise HDR effects, exceptionally successful sound - just what more could you want? For me personally, the Sony Bravia 55A8 is a very strong candidate for the best 55-inch OLED in 2020. I highly recommend it, because the improvements compared to 55AG8 are very large.

For the 8K resolution tests, we used a PC outputting 7680x4320 pixels from Displayport on an NVIDIA RTX card, and a Displayport-to-HDMI 2.1 adapter into HDMI4 input on the Sony ZH8. Note that we are in uncharted territories in terms of 8K testing methodology here, so there's a small possibility that errors might have been introduced.
