There have been some interesting rumors being passed around the cooler parts of the internet about the end of this first new installment. I happened upon my favorite summary over at Star Wars 7 News, which has primo access to their own Cantina forums. There, a user named Kyle described concept art he had seen:
Luke Skywalker, bearded and fully fleshed, raising a GREEN lightsaber at Han, who in turn has his classic blaster pointed at him. Adam Driver stands, not so much beside Han, but more off to the side. The perspective almost makes Driver look like he is in the middle. Driver looks concerned, but not frightened, more like he is pondering his next move.
This scene would seem to be at the end of the film, sometime past the climax of the other concept art we’ve seen leaked with Cyborg villain fighting who we assumed to be Daisy Ridley and John Boyega’s characters with the Millennium Falcon in the background. If The Force Awakens is actually a search for Luke Skywalker amongst our old friends and new cast, anything with Luke and Han in the same place would be towards the end of the film (or some sort of Force Vision...yeah, we’re getting there).
Then, the next series of rumors seemed to have been kicked off by a series of 4chan posts that were called out as being fake, only to have a poster respond with a comment that suddenly matched up with everything everyone has been hearing.
Ok - pause for POSSIBLE MAJOR SPOILER ALERT and to reiterate the process of this rumor’s development: some 4Chan Star Wars Episode 7 spoiler posts were called out, leading to a comment from a user about the real ending. As a person that writes about Star Wars every week, this is basically head canon until we get more information about the film, but I’m not asserting it’s true as much as it’s my favorite thing I can’t prove false.
Ok, here we go:
>Luke brought a cataclysm to Tatooine soon after Return of the Jedi after he visited Anakin’s birthplace and for whatever reasons it’s changed him. It’s an even more desolate place now, there are meteor craters everywhere, you get the point, at first you won’t know that it’s even the Tatooine you’re looking at.
>Luke goes mad because he discovers he f***ing can’t control himself. He destroys everything around and kills people with his powers, unconsciously. He leaves his friends and lives in solitude on Mon Cal in a fortress of some f*** old sith lord because the dark side that clouds the place puts him in chains.
>Luke is now a Yoda + Paul Atreides, he f***ing sees the future, sees the past (that’s why the “flashback” scenes were filmed) and he’s basically a mentally unstable god.
>Nobody wants to have anything to do with him, but Han’s son (Adam Driver) wants to use Luke’s power for his own evil means.
>Luke has a premonition about the destruction that Han’s kid will bring in the future and decides to kill him.
>Han is obviously mad as f*** at Luke.
>There’s a huge fight. It’s everyone vs Luke (Luke has his father’s red lightsaber here, so it’s obviously visually implied that he’s the bad guy). This fight is epic as f***.
>”But Luke isn’t the villain! But everybody thinks he is! Oh no, such a twist! Such darkness! It’s like ESB all again!”
>Han kills Luke, because Luke allows him to, “he trusts him”.
Ok, forget that last line immediately. IMMEDIATELY.
If you recall my second “S7ar Wars” post ever: I do not think Han Solo makes it out of this movie alive. Not only was that what I heard way back when, it makes more Harrison Ford sense.
There were some anonymous commenters in the Star Wars 7 News post that made the same point I did:
Luke will not die. It’s the other way around.
There is a fight at the end. Luke wants to kill Driver and Han steps in. Luke then kills Han which brings Luke back to his sanity. Han with his dying words begs Luke to let Driver live, to trust him that everything will be alright and the he won’t succumb to the Dark Side.
Luke trust Han and does not kill Driver – which will be a big mistake as we will see in Episodes VIII and IX.
