The company behind the ubiquitous computer DVD software PowerDVD demonstrated the new functions of its latest edition, PowerDVD 9, due out in March of 2009. This latest edition provides full support for all high resolution BD audio formats like DTS-HD MA 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD. Providing complete support for BD-Live, users can download content and utilize the interactive features with as much ease as standard Blu-ray players.
On the aesthetic front, PowerDVD 9 has an enhanced user interface where one can navigate titles or chapters using touch screen capable monitors. It also features a web based filing and catalog system – a user's disc collection will display cover art uploaded directly from Amazon, and they are able to sort and rate the titles in whatever way they wish. PowerDVD 9 boasts improved subtitle rendering and better noise reduction, should a user elect the option. Its True Theatre Effects, carrying over from previous editions, can, among other things, increase sharpness on standard definition content and smooth playback motion by raising 24Hz to 60Hz in a "motion flow" effect.
In addition to BD playback, Cyberlink offers a full range of Blu-ray software to capture, edit, author and burn high definition content. With leading support for the latest high definition disc formats, including BD-ROM Profile 2.0 (BD-Live), BD+, BD-R/RE discs, AVCHD, and AVCREC, Cyberlink's PowerDirector, PowerProducer, Power2Go, and all-in-one Ultra DVD Suite 7 provide a full array of tools for all high-def home video mad scientists.
