Web-enabled Titles to Come this January
Posted December 6, 2007 by Josh
Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that two of their upcoming January Blu-ray titles will feature web-enabled features. As we reported from the Blu-ray Festival, 'War', which is scheduled to hit store shelves on January 1st, will feature a web-enabled game where viewers can battle each other. 'Saw IV', which will come out two weeks later on January 22nd, will feature web sharing of unspecified content.
Sony Pictures has also promised upcoming web-enabled titles soon. Don Eklund, Sony Executive VP of Advanced Technologies commented, "We have an aggressive program underway to use network capabilities on our titles next year." Disney has already promised fans that their upcoming Blu-ray releases of 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'National Treasure' would feature such web interactivity.
Both Lionsgate and Sony Pictures fully expect the PS3 to become a Profile v2.0 BD-Live player via a firmware update sometime next year. A firmware update to give the PS3 a Profile v1.1 (PiP) upgrade is schedule for the end of this month. Currently, there are no BD-Live players scheduled for release, though Daewoo has announced intentions to bring one to the market soon.
