The thing I feared most about this set appears to have come true. It would seem that I now have permanenent screen burn on this set and I'm quite worried as I have only had it for around 3 months. I can clearly see the 'ITV Sport' logo at the top left of the screen and not matter how many times I whitewash I still cannot get it to go away. This seemd to appear after the Russia v Holland Euro 2008 game and it has remained ever since. You cannot see it at all during normal viewing, but you can see it with a bright background.
I can also see some of the BBC HD logo and the '0-0' score board of PES 2008. I even have all inputs set to 'orbiter' to try and reduce this possibility, as well as having some settings lower than normal. I am really disappointed as I love everything else about this set.
Another thing that is going to irritate me greatly is that fact that LG have me by the scruff. I probably cannot force a replacement because of their documentation. However, I have several ways to counter that. Is it out of order to watch a full 90 minute game without the fear of screen burn? Am I unable to game on the set by playing a few games of Pro Evo without having to worry about screen burn, despite the set having a 'game' mode?
I have to be honest and say that, at this stage, image retention has not improved at all. For example, if I bring up the menu of the TV whilst watching a movie in anamorphic mode, I can still see the menu box after the image has gone and it would stay for ages unless another image overwrites it. Even the 'no signal' logo comes up as a blurring mess all over the screen because of the image retention.
Don't get me wrong. As I said before, I really love the TV. The image retention is only going to get worse in my view. I'm not sure how I can challenge this with the local dealer I bought it from as I'm pretty sure they'll hit me with the 'screen burn is not covered' statement, despite being very careful to avoid it. I also paid slightly over the odds for mine (£1,200) and seeing it now for £800 makes it hurt even more. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
